It is with great sadness that we announce that our father left us on September 4, 2020 after bravely battling his failing health. A gentle, courageous, generous and very exceptional man. We will miss him beyond words.
Leslie was born in Plantagenet, Ontario, on October 23, 1928, son of John Patrick McAuley et Rosella McAllister. He is predeceased by his four brothers. Leslie will be greatly missed by his cherished wife of 66 years, Louise Gauthier and his six children Diane (James), Helen (Bill), Bob (Johanne), Christine (Jean-Yves), Lise and Mark (Carine). He was an engaged and wonderful grandfather to his fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A General Motors man for 35 years, Leslie volunteered tirelessly within the community in many different capacities: President of the West Island Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the fundraising committee for the construction of the, W.I. YMCA, hockey coach for Brookwood, member of the Crisis Center, longtime warden at St-David’s Catholic Church and jolly Santa at many Christmas celebrations. Leslie enjoyed his weekly golf games, animated lunches with his friends but his biggest joy was the many gatherings where he was surrounded by his close knit family.
Our very special thanks to the staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital.
The family will gather privately for a mass and burial. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the C.N.I.B. or to W.I.A.I.H. (West Island Ass. for the Intellectually Handicapped).
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Lamarre & Son Funeral Home, 453 St. Philippe Street, Alfred, Ontario, (613) 679-2802.

My condolences to the McAuley family. I was very sad to hear that Mr. McAuley had passed away last week. He was responsible for my first real employment as an adult. I actually thought it was rather amazing that he was willing to take a chance on me at the time. That job helped me enormously, and led me to develop the work ethic that has guided me through my whole life. I actually owed him a lot, and to my chagrin, I don’t believe I ever told him that.
Deepest condolences to all of the McAuley family. Mr. McAuley was a devoted member of St.David parish in Pierrefonds,QC. We thank him for raising a family that is so heavily involved with the handicapped to this day.(WIAIH).———(parents of Darren James Berezuik).

Madame McAuley!
