It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Gourgon of Curran, Ontario, on Tuesday, February 12th, 2025, at the age of 82. Son of the late Hector Gourgon and Cécile Brazeau. Richard was born in Mechanicsville, Ottawa, he was the oldest of 10 siblings.
Richard met the love of his life and beloved wife Lois Bigelow of 61 years. They built a family of their own, one that Richard cherished with all his heart. A loving, dedicated father and mentor to Carole-Lynn (Edward Pilon) and Richard (Tracy Gourgon).
A family man through and through he was the happiest when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He took much pride and joy mentoring, cooking, fishing or just hanging out with his grand-children. He will be greatly missed by Jesse Pilon (Farran Pilon), Jake Pilon (Felicitie Brun), Amy Gourgon (Brighton Crozier), Stephanie Wolfe (Jake Wolfe) and Abigail Gourgon.
He loved to hold and bounce his great-grandchildren while singing old time songs to Hanna, Logan, Freya and Willis Pilon. He also has 3 great-grandsons in Australia Liam, Logan and Dorian Wolfe.
He was predeceased by his sister Lucille, (late Peter Wilkinson), Mitchell (Charlene Gourgon), and Robert (Ray Dupuis).
His surviving siblings Lorraine (late Philippe Emond), Hector Jr. (aka Pit) (Julie Gourgon), John (Diane Gourgon), Daniel (Carole Gourgon), Guy (Cindy Gourgon) and Linda (Ron Brooks), will miss their brother’s old-time story telling, memories from their childhood and jokes.
Beloved by his sister-in-law Leona and nieces Angela and Joanne.
He also leaves behind many, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 1st, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Church, Plantagenet. The family would like to extend an invitation to family and friends to meet them at the church before the funeral from 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to the Maxville Manor Foundation for the redevelopment project at www.maxvillemanor.ca/redevelopment-foundation/donate-now/, where Richard resided for the past 5 years, and received exceptional care.
